Good day everyone,
My name is Kurt and i hail from Pretoria, South Africa
i am the owner of a 1998 (Daewoo)Ssangyong Korando 230 4x4
it has the Mercedes W111 engine similar to the 230 Kompressor.
I bought the vehicle in a drive-able condition and have since fixed:
Head lights
Tail lights
Indicator lights
And a fuel gauge that was not responding
the Fuel pump located in the fuel tank was a total mess and had been tied together with
copper wire and cable-ties! it pumped fuel and that was it.
I luckily had a fuel sender unit and filter from a diesel Korando and stripped and modified the fuel pump and sender unit in my vehicle, now the fuel gauge is working again.
I still have the following to do:
Replace the front and rear brake pads.
Replace the rear shocks.
Give the vehicle a service (Air filter, Spark plugs, oil filter, fuel filter and oil)
replace the Expansion tank cap (as it is boiling over through the cap)
driving the vehicle was a pain in the butt as it had a terrible miss on acceleration and poor fuel economy.
this i later traced to the tiny MAF sensor on the plastic housing just before the throttle body, where the two wires were touching, so i carefully removed the insulation tape covering them and put a tiny piece of rubber between the two and re-taped up he wires, and no more miss.
I am currently struggling with the cooling system, and have a weird problem:
When driving the car it gets to normal temperature but the fan does not come on and when i am stopped, the coolant is furiously bubbling out of the expansion tank cap (hence i want to change the cap)
And when i turn on the heater, it only seems to blow cool air into the car. (Blocked Heater core?)
Is my water pump failing or do i just need to replace the cap?
Sorry for the long and winded post.
can anyone supply a copy of the Ssangyong EPC as i am going to need to source all the correct part numbers.
Kind regards and happy driving
Kurt.
